I have been coding CFML since Coldfusion 5, and I have long used the Cold Fusion MX book as a reference in my daily work, so I was happy to get the new books to help with using some of the newer features.So this is a large jump from my book for version 6, there is a lot more in the book, but also a lot less. I went ahead and got all three books in the series, and one of the things that I found was missing was the CFML tag reference at the end of the book. I know that sometimes I do work while on the road, and so do not have internet access, but they seem to only want to have that information on-line.In my review of Volume 3, I did complain about half the book being on-line only and not actually in the print book. When you buy a book, it is nice to actually get the book.I am far from a new user of Coldfusion so I can not speak of how well it teaches the language, but as a long time user, I do find this series as a nice reference. One things that does seem to be missing is talking about which of the features are new to 8, which were added in 7, and so on. I know that in my development, I need to constantly support customers who are on old version of Coldfusion, so that would be a great thing to have with the Tag reference.Hope this helps people out there...

I've been around the CF community for over 12 years. In the early days, there were numerous authors and there was competion so I think folks were more customer oriented. Forta, et. al., have become the gurus so they just keep curning out their brand of book, which are less than stellar. I think they know the subject matter so well that they can't bring it down to the mortal level.Another complaint is that you have to work really hard to find all the info about a give subject and there is no guarantee that you may ever find that piece one bit that you really need.Finally, the 3 volume set has no overall index so you are forced to look in every book for whatever you are trying to find. More often than not, it is the overflow chapters that are offline, so to speak. They used to include a CD with these chapters.I finally download all of their online stuff so I can quickly reference it off of my harddrive, but it is less than satisifying.

no one puts it better then Ben. touches on all basic parts of coldfusion and sql. you would be crippled if you did not pick this book up! i used online tutorials for a while. and after reading some of this book. i know i get alot more out of this book then any video tutorial. you buy this book you can sell it in a year and not lose any money, if you would even want to !

For years, ColdFusion developers have been stressing the need to create multi-tier applications using ColdFusion Components, and yet most introductory materials on the language have relegated CFCs to advanced courses. This book introduces them as soon as it reasonably can - about half way through - and then follows the "proper" format of using multi-tier applications from then on. Instead of learning other languages such php/asp, go and learn ColdFusion and get your application finished sooner than ever before, you won't regret about CF8.I would recommend this book if you are starting this ColdFusion World, and the others (volume 2, 3) as well.

I was one of many reviewers that write on amazon reviews that Forta is the most respected and skillful technical writer ever borned. His writing style is not only a joy of reading but also an effective educational style. So far so good. But in the last 8 series books I'm almost sure that Forta hasn't write more than 2-3 chapters and he just marketing these books by his name in the front cover. No more the funny style of writing, no more logical sequence in the chapters and many many others. Sorry Ben but the old quality has been lost. I wouldn't suggest the 8th edition books because they are not from Ben or Ben has lost his style, or maybe his name name has to be written in the same size as the other writers.

This is a GREAT, great book for learning veterinary micro. I've read and bought (unfortunately) a few books on the matter and it would have been nice if I had bought this one first....would have saved me some money, and I would have a more fluent understanding of the matter at this point.

Brand new - in shrink wrap - perfect condition. Didn't rate it 5 stars because I haven't evaluated the content of the book.

We use it in my class at Veterinary medicine, and it's great; it's pretty easy to understand, and the chapters aren't that long, so it's possible to read a chapter in the bus og on the train.Would recommend it for everybody interested in Microbiology in animals, and in zoonoses.

Well, I can review this book by providing some descriptions as I did with Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE) Foundation Learning Guide: Foundation learning for the ROUTE 642-902 Exam (Self-Study Guide) and Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH) Foundation Learning Guide: Foundation learning for SWITCH 642-813 (Self-Study Guide). If you interested, this book covers each topic with lots of details and, more importantly, many examples; provides number of commands and describe, how and when to use each one. And yes, significant lines are highlighted in commands outputs.But I want to write something else."How to troubleshoot the network" is the Question that has no simple answer and maybe has no universal formula-like answer at all. (If you think otherwise, you should read this book.) Troubleshooting is not a science; it is a form of art. Of course, every protocol has define logic, every device (even malfunctioning) executes some algorithm, and even users activities can be described with good approximation. But, when you deal with big network, the scale, the number of factors, of interconnections, of hidden flows is so large, that it cannot be observed by human mind (with exception of several genius). So you when you find the solution, it is often a result of a feeling, not conclusion. And that is why I think that troubleshooting is an art.So, how about this book? Does it teaches you this art, or it is a worthless piece of paper? Don't worry. This book will not simply teach you the art. It will make You the Artist. I am so sure about this, because after reading this book I have a feeling, that I know the Answer to unanswerable question. I know "How".If you think that event-driven troubleshooting is nice and documentation is for all-forgetting-dummies, then you should read this book. If you already know what troubleshooting is, you should read this book too. It worth every cent, and I rate this item as 5-star just because of lack of better mark.

This book has a nice and practical way to explain troubleshooting. Despite that sometimes problems were very easy to solve, I think that this is an excellent material for those who are beginning in this career.

There is a lot of information in Cisco Press textbooks. However, I wouldn't rely solely on this book to pass the certification exams. There are also a few typos here and there, but that is to be expected since humans make mistakes.

About the Author
Brian Taylor, AuD is currently the Director of Practice Development & Clinical Affairs for Unitron. He is responsible for all best practice initiatives and customer loyalty programs for Unitron in the United States. Over the past 20 years he has dispensed hearing aids in both retail and medical settings, including Rockford Clinic and Sonus. Prior to his current position, he was the Director of Professional Development for Amplifon and served as their Global Training Manager in Milan, Italy. Dr. Taylor has written and lectured extensively on several topics, including practice management and evidence-based hearing aid selection and fitting approaches. Brian holds an Au.D from Central Michigan University and a master s degree in Audiology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He currently resides in Minneapolis.

Dr. H. Gustav Mueller is Professor of Audiology, Vanderbilt University and holds faculty positions with the University of Northern Colorado and Rush University. He is the Senior Audiology consultant for Siemens Hearing Instruments and Contributing Editor for AudiologyOnline. Dr. Mueller is a Founder of the American Academy of Audiology and a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association. He has published extensively in the areas of diagnostic audiology and hearing aid applications, and has co-authored several books, including the Audiologists Desk Reference (Volumes I and II) and Fitting and Dispensing Hearing Aids. This book gave me a better perspective on doing welded sculpture than anything else I've read. The how-to for oxy-acetylene welding (used exclusively in this book) was good, though I was already familiar with it. Where the book really shined was the exercises (welding) the author has the reader do to prepare to create sculpture on his own. And also the discussions of organic form that allow one who has never had any artistic training to begin to represent living creatures in his/her sculpture. Coming from a technical and scientific background, I, for the first time, began to see how to create sculpture that could express the nature of a living thing moving.
